  • Currently, there are over 2,000 unfilled positions for Registered Nurses in Indiana alone and 116,000 in the United States. The shortage of registered nurses (RNs) in the U.S. could reach as high as 500,000 by 2025.

  • In Indiana, over 2,500 qualified students are turned away every year from nursing schools due to the shortage of nursing faculty. Nationally, 40,285 are turned away every year.

  • 37% of current Indiana RN faculty will reach retirement age by 2015; 59% by 2020.

  • There are roughly 2.6 million registered nurses in the United States today, but many more are needed! According to US Department of Health and Human Services, nursing is hot and in high demand, due to the aging US population and ongoing technological advances that will require nurses with advanced skills.

  • More than six percent of registered nurses are men, and this number continues to increase each year.
